Preface

0.4 To Instructors

The narrative-thread throughout the text is simulations. The text uses Excel and Python to illustrate and tie together the three components that are computational science. Ultimately, the purpose of the text is to lay a foundation for a follow-up course in computational science, enabling a development of breadth and depth of skills and understanding. The text isn’t written to be used in a standard one-semester introductory algebra-based statistics course, though it could (awkwardly) be used in such.

Carroll CMP112 instructors should cover the text, but if time is running short, skip chapter 12 or 13 (but not both). Save at least a week to discuss regression at the end of the semester, but know that followup courses (e.g., CMP114) will further develop correlation and regression as needed.
